Scenario
Imagine that after your HNCD programme you get a job in organisation of your choice. You may choose Dreams sales machine (London) Ltd, another conference and events business and any other organisation of your choice.
The business in interested in developing a capability in events management.
You told them that you studies this subject in your first year of your programme, so you are asked to carry out some activities in your area.
Activity 1- Reporting on the event sector
Cover the following:
- Outline of event sector- What are the various categories and dimensions of Events?
- Trends in the event sector- What are the features and current trends that are impacting the Events Sector?
How Events Sector developing? How are Events adapting to stay innovative?
Activity 2 – Evaluating the management skills requires to work in events industry
Prepare a business report and cover the following:
- Range of management roles in the events sector- What are the different roles in the event industry?
What are some of current job opportunities in events?
- The management skills required to meet stakeholders needs-What are the management skills and personal attributes required by someone who wants to be successful in the Events Industry?
How right management skills lead to the management of a successful event?
Who are the stakeholders in an event? What are the management skills requires to meet the needs of different stakeholders? Which of these skills are most important and why? Make recommendations for acquiring management skills, justifying these recommendations in context of meeting stakeholder requirements?
Activity 3- Planning Event Room Setup
Prepare a planning documents which covers the following:
- Develop a layout for an event in which you correctly set up an event room in a way that meets client requirements.
- Examine what services are available in an event environment and why it is important to meet clients requirements.
If you feel able to develop this plan to another level, you can cover;-
- Evaluate the quality of design and layout you have produced earlier, in terms of how to meet clients’ needs and expectations;
- Justify your choices for the design and layout, in terms of how you have set up the event correctly or met client expectations.
Activity 4 – planning event safety
Prepare planning documents:
- Explain suitable security and safety measures for an event making sure to include how you provide the safer venue and a safe environment for guests with examples.
If you feel able to develop this plan to a higher level, you can go on to;-
- Compare the security and safety provision at different specific events that you provide as examples
- Make suggestions for improving the provision of security and safety for those events which you have chosen as examples, justifying recommendations in terms of costs and benefits for the business, staff and guests.
If you are unable to come up with your own Client Brief for an Event, a simple example is provided as Appendix 1
Appendix 1
Event brief
A conference to be held in London for 25 executives from 7 different countries.
Meeting will lasts for 2 days between 9:00 to 17:00 hours.
Delegates speak 7 different language. Some have advanced and some have mediatory English language skills.
In evening of the first day, they will visit the show “Phantom of the Opera” at “Her Majesty’s Theatre” in central London.
The budget for the 2 days is 10,000.00 GBP. This includes the hotel room, coffee breaks, lunch but not dinner, and the show.
