As a student, you might encounter several things in your day to day life that seem to be a part of the country folks from a long time but have been discovered recently. It is perhaps because these have become an inevitable part of your life. The experts providing assignment help to the students all over the world have listed out five inventions that are discovered recently.
Wondering what they are? Take a read to get enlightened about them.
Standardized time
We are the citizens of the Global village, and it is almost impossible to imagine the world without different time zones. It would be quite surprising to you that following standardised time became a law in the 1880s. Before that, the country folks measured the time looking at the position of the sun. The difference between time in the distant cities was never noticed because there was no such thing as a cell phone or e-mail. And, the people travelling to far places could not notice the change in time. This scenario changed with the invention of the trains, and thus the law was passed for following a standardised time in 1880.
Teenagers
The teenagers were not ‘invented’, there have always been people aged between 13-19, but the concept of being a ‘teenager’ evolved in the 20th century. Until this period, there were either adults or children. This term was derived from the numbers namely thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, and so on.
Supermarkets
The concept of the supermarket does not seem like a revolutionary concept, but it is! The grocery shopping was nowhere similar to what it is today. The customers used to visit the specified shops to buy things that they needed. Clarence Saunders, the owner of an average grocery shop, came up with the idea that revolutionised the face of shopping. He is credited with implementing the idea for modern day amenities we have on supermarket today.
Doorknobs
Turning it and opening the door is so simple! It seems the doorknob was always there, but the concept of the doorknobs was invented in the late 1800s. It is said that an inventor named Osbourn Dorsey discovered the doorknobs. Prior to this, the doors were opened and closed using the latches that were attached to them.
Crosswords
Arthur Wynn, a British man who migrated to America, is credited with the invention of crosswords. He formulated a diamond-shaped puzzle called “Word-Cross” in the 1913 edition of the New York World newspaper. It was a typesetting error that led to the switching round of these words to form the term “crossword” that we are familiar with today.
